ZMR Awards Process and Rules

These are the processes and rules that will be used to guide the ZMR Music Awards. The rules will be strictly enforced and adhered to. There will be no exceptions. ZMR does not participate in or influence the qualifying of artists, nominations or finalist voting.

Nomination Process

1.       All Broadcasters (Show Hosts) that have reported Top 20 Lists to ZMR during the time period December 2019 thru November 2020 are eligible to participate in both the Nomination and Award Voting process.

2.       Each Broadcaster (Show Hosts) will be asked to nominate up to five (5) selections in as many categories in which they feel comfortable voting.

3.       Recordings eligible for nomination will be restricted to recordings that were Top 50 of the ZMR Top 100 chart from December 2019 thru November 2020 (except for "Album of the Year" which is restricted to recordings in the Top 10).  A listing of all eligible recordings, by category,  will be available on the ZMR website starting on Saturday, May 8, 2021. Only those recordings appearing in this listing will be eligible.  Write in candidates will not be accepted.

4.     All voting will be done electronically.

5.       Voters are asked to select up to five (5) recordings in each category.  Nomination voting will begin on Thursday, May 20, 2021 and will close on Wednesday June 9, 2021 at 9:00 PM CST.

6.       All nominations will by tabulated by ZMR, and the top five in each category will be the finalists. If by chance there is a tie in a category, a five-point tiebreaker will be used to determine the top 5 finalists (see Tie Breaker).

7.       Category Nominees will be announced and posted on the ZMR website on Friday, June 11, 2021 and all finalists will be notified by email.

Award Voting Process

1.       The award-voting panel will consist of all of the Broadcasters (Show Hosts) who participated in the initial nomination process, RJ Lannan and Bill Binkelman.(Note: Bill and RJ are not employees of ZMR.)

2.      Each member of the voting panel will be requested to electronically select a finalist in as many categories in which they feel comfortable  voting.

3.       Voting members may vote for only one winner in each category.

4.       All Finalist votes will be tabulated by ZMR.

6.       There will only be one winner in each category.  If by chance there is a tie in a category, a five-point tiebreaker will be used to determine the winner (see Tie Breaker).

7.       Finalist award voting will begin on Sunday, June 13, 2021 and will close on Saturday, July 3, 2021 at 9:00 PM CST.

8.     Award winners are to be announced Saturday July 10, 2021 on this site. Further details regarding time and method will be forthcoming, depending on time available and effort required to prepare for the announcements .

Tie Breakers

The Top 100 chart data will serve to break all ties. The data used will be taken from the Top 100 charts during the period covering December 2019 thru November 2020 and any period immediately before or after that time period where a tied recording was on the chart. Using this time period ensures that a recording does not get an advantage from being on the chart at a certain time during the year. The tie is broken upon one of the recordings winning one of the tiebreakers listed below. The tiebreakers are listed in the order in which they will be applied.

1.       The accumulated Top 50 chart score of each recording.  The highest point total wins.

2.       Number of months in the Top 5 of the chart

3.       Number of months in the Top 10 of the chart

4.       Highest position on the chart.

5.       Number of months in the Top 100 chart
